Save The MR10
NARA – The Breathing Charity has used Graseby MR10 apnoea alarms/respiration monitors for over 30 years, in fact it is the reason NARA exists. The need for respiration monitors by two families whose babies suffered apnoea attacks (stopping breathing) bought about this small national charity that has since assisted many parents whose babies suffer in similar ways. There are many babies, including my own daughter who may not be here today without the use of one of these life saving machines. Many prem babies, twins, triplets, siblings of cot death, and many, many really poorly babies and their parents have benefited from using an MR10 alarm, and they have saved countless lives.
Whilst recently trying to order some equipment, NARA – The Breathing Charity has found that the manufacturers are to cease production of the MR10 in the next few weeks. What’s more they have no plans to replace this vital piece of equipment.
Please help us SAVE THE MR10. We have till the 1st June 2014 (1st July 2014 will be too late) to get them to change their minds, or to be in a position to buy as many as we can, the later looking the most likely. I would like as many letters as I can get sent to us, from parents who have used these machines, to let these people know how important the MR10 is. I need to send these to the company as quickly as possible. We cannot do anything after 1st July so we need to work fast.
We would also be very grateful to anyone who may have purchased a MR10 alarm and no longer require it. Please consider NARA if you want to donate or sell for a reasonable price.
To all Mums out there who are currently using our MR10’s – YOUR MACHINES ARE SAFE! Please do not worry and rest assured we will do our best to cover all needs. Any of our Mum’s with machines that are no longer being used, please contact us to arrange return so we can get then serviced/repaired for others to use. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN THIS EQUIPMENT IF IT HAS BEEN USED IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS, OR YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT THAT YOU STILL NEED IT. Please contact us before returning equipment.
A BT donate page is now set up for donations towards the purchase of as many MR10’s as we can buy. https://mydonate.bt.com/events/savethemr10/127070
The company are offering them for £500 each (end of life price). This is just the cost of the machine, we still have to cover all care, support and disbursements to keep the machines going and make sure the patient has the correct care during the year. All donations will be gratefully accepted. We have (they say) five years support for this equipment, which will give us time to find an alternative, but ideally we need enough machines to cover that five years.
The Graseby MR10 is just one piece equipment NARA uses and we have to remember we have other equipment to purchase and many, many patients to look after in the meantime. Any offer of support and comments will be welcomed.
Thank you.
